Smithtown student-actors to take the stage at Hofstra
Several familiar faces from across the district will take the stage in The Nutcracker at Hofstra University on Saturday and Sunday, December 20 and 21.
Laila DarConte of Accompsett Middle School, Giulia Katz of Smithtown Elementary, High School East’s Sonya Russo, Juliette Struss of Mills Pond Elementary, and Mary Calefato, an eighth-grader at Great Hollow Middle School, will all be performing in this year’s production. Mary plays the pivotal role of Fritz—who breaks Clara’s Nutcracker and sets the story in motion—in two of the four shows.
“My ultimate goal is to be the Snow Queen,” Mary said. “She has great costumes and fun dance routines.”
Mary shared that she trains five days a week at the Ohman School of Ballet, with rehearsals held on Saturdays and Sundays.
Show Performances: Dec. 20 & 21 at noon and 5 p.m.
Tickets: $33–$55 with discounts for seniors and children at or 631-462-0964.
